Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese art of healing over the last 5000 years. The treatment of various diseases by inserting very fine needles on specific points of the body is termed acupuncture. In the Stone Age, pointed stones were used in place of needles and later on it was replaced by needles made from bones or bamboo. In the beginning of the metal age, bronze was used to manufacture the needles and in the course of time needles of iron, silver and gold came into existence.
Philosophy
Like any other branches of holistic medicine, acupuncture believes in the theory of five great elements, namely wood, fire, earth, metal and water. Each elements transform from one form to another. The principle of meridians and the concept of 'Qi' (pronounced as Chee) is the core theory of acupuncture. As like any forces in the universe exhibits positive and negative polarity, 'Qi' also functions by bi polarity namely yin and yang
